A recent national poll indicated that only about 60% of Americans thought that young people should be encouraged to work hard and study diligently. One writer commenting on this finding attempted to portray it in a positive way by disclosing that the figure was lower than 40% in Europe. Of course, there is one group of people today where support for hard work and hard study is nearly unanimous. This is the group of people who have decided to learn computers through online training.
With the advent of the “virtual world” of cyberspace since the early 1990s, a whole parallel world has taken shape, except instead of wood and cement the “buildings” are constructed of bits and bytes. Throughout the 1990s and the maturing of the World Wide Web, the grocery store on the corner, the movie theater in the mall and the bookstore down the street all ended up in cyberspace. It didn’t take long for educational institutions of all kinds to make the move, too. Today people of all ages have a choice of driving to a campus for one, two or four years or studying in a more flexible way, from home and/or office, to get online computer training.

In the ideal situation, you buy a computer, install it and use it smoothly. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. Everybody will receive some error messages sometimes or some unexplained failures. Should you call in a computer technician immediately or are there a few things that you should try by yourself to solve the problem? It depends on the case. When you see a message saying that you have a motherboard failure, it is definitely time to call in the IT and not try to solve it on your own. A few smaller issues, though, could probably be easily solved by you.
When you receive messages that your computer does not have enough memory to run an application, it does not always mean that you need to buy more memory. Some programs that use memory do not give it back when done. This is one of the many design limitations of Microsoft. Use the Task Manager to close ‘hidden’ programs and free memory for programs that are in use.
Memory errors are also often created by misinterpretations of the operating system. Run a virus checker that is up to date and see if this solves the problem.
A very common and often occurring problem is freezing of the computer. The applications are not responding anymore and everything runs in slow motion. The main reason of this is poor maintenance. Learn to use Ctrl+Alt+Del. This is not going to shut down everything completely as in the old days. Instead, it makes the Task Manager appear. Here you can see all the applications that are running. Find the one(s) that don not respond and choose ‘end now’.

The world of information technology (IT) evolves quickly and requires those relying on it to do the same. Therefore, career openings within the industry are aplenty as there is need for experts to specialize in different IT areas. Even though hiring within the industry remains optimistic for the near future, employers have increased their expectations and are on the lookout for candidates with specific set of skills. For example, it helps to know a combination of software functions (i.e. Java, C++, and Linux) as it shows that you are versatile and capable. Here are some keys to success related to jobs in IT.
(1) Know your strengths. It doesn’t matter whether you specialize in hardware or software development. You need to know your interests and how it can benefit those wanting to hire you. In general, experts have concluded that there is demand for those with experience in desktop, network, and application development. In terms of application development, knowledge on web and server-based applications are particularly helpful. (2) Demonstrate understanding and loyalty. It is important to understand the role that you play within the organization. Many people with IT or computer jobs see themselves as less important compared to other departments (i.e. marketing). Always remember that you are an important asset and that your computer skills matter because they help to improve the company’s overall condition. Loyalty within the channel is also important. You can learn products and technology, but failure to fit into the channel puts knowledge to waste. (3) Move beyond technical support. Again, IT professionals should remember that customer satisfaction holds the key to success. The support provided should extend beyond routine and technicality, and lean towards meeting customer’s expectations. The best candidates are those who possess a solid combination of technical and soft skills.

Computers are here permanently and will pretty much guide the future of society. This fact mandates that children learn early to make effective use of a computer.
Nursery and Primary Schoolers and Computer Education
Computer education is important even in small countries like Cameroon and a recent 2 day seminar proved this. Attending this seminar were school officials from 10 of Cameroon’s provinces who voted to implement an extensive communication and information technology program for their nursery and primary school students.
This initiative was begun because educator’s began to realize that their children could not be productive as adults unless they were give the tools they needed to keep up with the computer-related technologies that now drive today’s world. Education topics will now include training on the different parts of a computer along with relavent software and how it is used. Along the way, children will be encouraged to adopt the same method of information filtration that computers use so effectively.
Cameroon schools are facing one big problem with this new initiative and that is a lack of computers. They simply do not have enough to get through the daily educational process let alone a new extensive computer training program. It has been decided that, until new computers can be purchased, the younger children will be taught about computers using only pictures and the actual computers will be reserved for the older children. All teachers, however, will be required to take a extensive computer technology training program.

Education is our most precious gift to ourselves, that we need to nurture throughout our lives in order to grow. The most logical way to get formal education is college, but not everyone has the money to go that route. My opinion is, “Never say ‘never’ “. You will get the education you need, in your own time frame, it may just not happen in the traditional period of four years in a university.
So, what is a person with limited means to do? First of all, decide on a career you want to pursue, if you haven’t already. In this first example, I will use the goal of wanting to own a restaurant. How can someone just out of high school and with no money get the needed education to own his or her own restaurant? It will take time, much hard work and a lot of patience. Here are some ideas to get the budding entrepreneur heading in the right direction.
First, and most obvious, work in a restaurant. Find employment in the kind of style of cooking that interests you. You aren’t going to hire in as a chef, but as a prep cook or salad person, for example. If the company is a chain, and has a paid training program, all the better. Whenever the employer pays for further training for you, NEVER turn it down. This is free, current education handed to you on a silver platter. Don’t only attend, but give the training all the focus and drive you have. Not only will you learn, but you are setting yourself up for a routine of excellence in behavior, habits and workmanship. Learn the equipment, techniques in food preparation and whatever else you can. Watch and learn everything you can absorb. This will drive you further up the ladder of success by going beyond what is required of you and giving a little extra.
